    What is Freemasonry?

    Last updated 1 year ago

Freemasonry is the measure of a man by his many virtues, including his trust, love, charity, tolerance, and friendship. Freemasonry is also constructed around the notion that through kindness, love, and faith, a man can add immense wealth to the common stock of humanity.

For a compelling look inside the nature of Freemasonry, take a look at this video from Maryland Freemasons. In this video, you’ll learn all about Freemasonry from one of the most historically influential men to every call himself a Mason: Benjamin Franklin.

    Debunking the Myths Behind Freemasonry

    Last updated 1 year ago

Modern Freemasonry began early in the 18th century; unfortunately, it was at this time that the first concocted untruths about the Masonic Order began to surface. Since then, Freemasonry has constantly been attacked and misunderstood by individuals who fail to recognize the beauty, sincerity, and morality behind the Masons. Some of the most common myths behind Freemasonry include:

    • Freemasonry is a Secret Society – While it is true that Freemasonry is a society with secrets, it is not a secret society. In fact, many of the supposed Masonic “secrets” were made public several centuries ago in London newspapers. Today, you can find out all about Freemasonry in the Library of Congress, on the Internet, and by visiting your local Lodge. As Benjamin Franklin once said, “The great secret of Freemasonry is that there is no secret at all.”
    • Freemasonry is a Religion – The fact of the matter is that Freemasonry is not a religion. While it is one of the few platforms where men of all monotheistic faiths can come together to better themselves morally and ethically, religion is not discussed at Masonic meetings. Masonry does not have a theology or dogma, it does not offer sacraments, and it does not offer the promise of salvation. Instead, it is a fellowship that teaches brotherly love, relief, and truth.
    • Freemasons Partake in Satanic Rituals – Anyone who has read books or articles about Freemasonry has undoubtedly encountered the word “ritual” during their investigations. While some people claim that these rituals are satanic, the nature of the Masonic Ritual is much more complex and beautiful than it is ever described in print. This ritual is used to teach new Masons the value of true friendship, the benefits of knowledge, and the necessity of helping those in need—quite the opposite of what this myth would have you believe.

To learn the truth about the Masons, contact the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts today. Famous Masons in American History

    Last updated 1 year ago

Freemasonry, as we know it today, began in the early 18th century in England when the Masons started to accept stoneworkers as members of a society. Over the next three hundred years, Freemasonry would attract some of the best and brightest minds the world has ever known, men who devoted themselves to serving their family, faith, and country.  Many of these men hailed from the United States.  While we could go on at great lengths about the honored tradition of Freemasonry in America, we figured we’d let a few of our previous Brothers speak for us.

Some of the famous Masons in American history include:

    • The Founding Fathers—Among the great political leaders and statesmen who helped to establish the United States Constitution were a number of Freemasons, including Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, Joseph Warren, John Paul Jones, and Edmund Randolph.
    • Frontiersmen and Explorers—Of all the great heroes in American history, perhaps none were as daring, adventurous, or brave as the first explorers of the American Frontier, many of whom also happened to be Freemasons. Some of the famous Freemason frontiersmen include Kit Carson, “Buffalo Bill” Cody, Davie Crockett, and Sam Houston.
    • Presidents—Of the 44 men who have sworn to serve and protect this great nation of ours as Commander-in-Chief, 14 were Masons. Among the Masonic Presidents of the United States were George Washington, James Monroe, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Lyndon Johnson, and Gerald Ford.
    • Entrepreneurs—America’s long and storied history is full of enterprising men who made their fortunes and bettered the lives of countless human beings through risk and initiative. Some of the great American entrepreneurs who were members of the Masonic Order include Walter Chrysler, Henry Ford, and J.C. Penny.
