How Can One Become a Freemason?

    Last updated 1 year ago

Freemasonry is a fraternity of adult men over the age 18 who share common moral and metaphysical ideologies. It aims to strengthen the character of its members through its three major tenants: Brotherly Love, Truth, and Relief. Freemasonry supports these tenants through charity, education, and leadership. The ultimate goal for each Freemason is, simply, to become a better man. But, how does one become a Freemason?

    • To become a Freemason certain qualifications must be met. Belief of a Supreme Being is one qualification. No Atheist or Agnostic may join, but men of any religious affiliation are welcome. The man must be over the age of 18 and of good character. He must also be sponsored by a current Mason. The final qualification is that the prospective Mason may only join of his own free will.
    • Once the qualifications are met, starting the process for becoming a Mason is fairly easy; a man must only ask to join the Lodge. The potential candidate must find a current Mason to recommend him. Then, after completing a petition (application), the man will be investigated by the Lodge. Finally, he must be unanimously elected by the members of the Lodge.. After been elected into the lodge, the man must past through three initial degrees.  Those degrees are Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason.
    • If a man does not know a Mason personally, then he might find one through general inquiry of men that he already knows. Most Masons don’t outwardly endorse their membership as Freemasonry does not see the need to recruit. However, most Masons are proud to sponsor new members and are more than willing to meet to discuss the process.

If you’re interested in joining a Lodge and becoming a Freemason, then begin the process by searching out a current member of a Lodge close to your home. In Massachusetts, call (857) 233-0563 to inquire about member ship or visit the website of The Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts.

    Exploring a Freemason Lodge Room

    Last updated 1 year ago

Freemason Lodge Rooms are typically beautiful rooms modeled after King Solomon’s Temple as described in the bible. But, there is more to the room than simple, historic elegance. The strong tradition of Freemasonry is exemplified within each Lodge Room.

    • The Lodge Room is always set lengthwise from West to East with the presiding officer, or Worshipful Master, sitting in the East. The Worshipful Master sits in the East because it is a metaphor for spreading knowledge as the Sun does light each day when it rises.
    • The Senior Warden, or first vice-president, sits in the West along with the Junior Deacon and Inside Sentinel. The Senior Warden helps the Worshipful Master with the opening and closing of the lodge as the Sun does when it sets in the West.
    • The Junior Warden, or second vice-president, sits in the South, where the Sun would be at its highest point in the day. The Junior Warden represents the Sun at noon, so it is he that calls the craft in from labor to refreshment and back to labor once the break has finished.
    • The North side of the Lodge Room is taught to be a place of darkness for Masons. Though brethren will occupy the North side of the room to view proceedings, no officer is stationed on the north side of the lodge.
    • Outside of the room is the Tyler’s station, where a Mason is positioned to welcome members and guests and to keep away potential eavesdroppers.
    • The Secretary and Treasurer sit on either side of the Worshipful Master. To his direct left sits the Chaplain who conducts all prayers for the lodge.
    • The focal point of every Lodge meeting is the altar. It is where a new brother takes his vows and becomes a Freemason. Upon the altar rests a Volume of Sacred Law (traditionally the Holy Bible, although other faiths can be represented), a square, and a compass. These three “Great Lights” symbolize Freemason philosophy.

    Is there Greatness in you?

    Last updated 1 year ago

Do you want to know what it means to be great? It may be as easy as following someone who strives for greatness daily in their lives. Ask a Freemason.

Greatness is most often measured in what you accomplish for others. Everyday life can be a preparation for greatness. And in everyday life there is a focus

That being a Freemason can provide. You will experience the satisfaction of helping others and you will also have additional benefit of growing yourself. It

Sounds simple and can be when you associate with like minded men

    If you want to discover the greatness in you, take the time to research the Freemasons. And the best research is done just by asking. Here’s how to tell if you are good candidate;

    • You are an adult male
    • You believe in a Supreme Being
    • Your decision to  apply has come about from your own free will and accord.

Being great is measured by others. If you want to make a difference, Ask a Freemason. That’s right, just ask.
